St. Mary's C of E Primary School

Extreme Weather Procedures

Information for Parents

In the event of disruption caused by extreme weather the prime concern must always be the safety of the pupils and staff.

Any decision to close the school will take account of the safety of both pupils and staff, some of whom travel a great distance to school each day.

The Headteacher will make the decision to close the school as early as possible, and a notice will be posted on the school website (www.stmaryseg.co.uk) and a Bromcom alert sent out. The Local Authority will also be informed and will update their website.

Once the school is open, we will aim to remain open until the end of the normal school day at 3.15pm. In the event of extreme weather during the day resulting in some pupils being collected early, normal lessons may be curtailed and the remaining pupils assembled in groups under the supervision of authorised members of staff to await further instructions.

Older pupils will not be allowed to walk home alone unless we have received permission form parents and confirmation that someone will be at home to receive them.

Children should not bring scooters and bikes into school to help reduce the risks for themselves and others. They should wear warm clothing and wellies as it should be assumed that they may go outside.

The school website will be updated through the day with the latest information.
